Hello and welcome to Year 3
We can't believe we have reached SpringTerm already! The children have grown so much in confidence and independence since they arrived with us in September. They have been working hard on their team work skills and have taken part in many exciting challenges. They are looking forward to the opportunity to work with a local business in the Furness General Hospital Healthy Eating Challenge. We are encouraging the children to take up an activity after school to broaden their interests and talents. The children have been working really hard to produce quality work and continue to develop Learning for Life skills. We are looking forward to a chance to 'show off' our fantastic achievements during Work Share Day later this term.
Mrs Stanway and Mrs Stevens are very proud and fortunate to have many specialist teachers and teaching assistants working along side them and with your child;
Visits and Visitors
We are visited weekly by Jane Raynor who loves hearing the children read. We look forward to working with Furness General Hospital this term when we will get an opportunity to prepare some delicious food for parents to come and share and enjoy in the hospital canteen. How exciting! Real-life learning. We are looking forward to welcoming back M & M Productions and their Wizard of Oz performance next month too.
What we have been up to
We have loved learning all about the Ancient Egyptians...
We are just beginning a new topic all about Healthy Eating. We will keep you posted about our experiences and activities through regular updates on our facebook page, website and twitter feed @Victoria_Acad
Homework is given out on Thursday and collected in on Wednesday. We sometimes like to write comments in the Homework Book about your child such as how well they are doing or more specific things about their work and we encourage parents to write comments back to us. The children also have a Home Reading Book with a Reading Record so that they can enjoy reading together with family members at home. We try to encourage them to read little and often to improve their confidence. Our home/school spelling strategy using flashcards and related homework over a few weeks is proving to be a real success and the children seem to be really enjoying it. It's made a huge impact on their spelling scores too. We know this will make a real difference to their confidence in spelling. Well done children and parents!
PE is every Monday and Friday so children should always have their PE Kit in school on those days as this is an important part of the National Curriculum.
Children can buy healthy snacks from our tuck shop during morning break with snacks costing between 10p and 25p. Alternatively you can provide them with a healthy snack from home.
We are really looking forward to further helping your children progress in their learning and enjoyment of the world. If you have any queries during this year please come and see us. Our door is always open.
Further to our Parent session with Barrow Police on e-safety and how to keep your child safe online, we have added helpful links to each year group page to help you. If you have any questions or you just want to come in to school to chat about e-safety, please feel free to call in.
We have also provided you with links to download the appropriate guide to allow you to add parental controls to your Internet provider. Click on the appropriate link below and 'open':
