We are very proud of the provision we offer at Victoria Academy, we constantly work hard to make sure that our pupils are really happy here and achieve their absolute best. Moving to junior school is a very big step for children as all schools offer different learning environments and ways of teaching. Our staff team and pupils will be ready to welcome your child into our school and we will do all we can to help them feel happy and relaxed as quickly as possible.
Working in partnership with families is very important and we want to make sure you have all of the information you need about junior school life. Your child will attend two transition days during which they will work with their new class teachers followed by a meeting for parents/carers. Children will bring home Welcome Packs which should contain all of the information that you need and we will run through routines, expectations and further general information at the Parent/Carer Meeting, answering any questions you may have. Should you have any additional queries, please do not hesitate to give us a call or pop in, we will always make ourselves available to provide clarity or reassurance.
Approximately two weeks after the start of term, you will be invited to a Year Group Introduction Meeting at which Teachers will give you information about curriculum content, homework, PE routines etc. This will be an opportunity for you to ask questions and begin to get to know Classteachers. A few weeks later, you will be invited to attend a Parent Meeting to discuss your child individually with their Teacher/s. This meeting will focus on your child as a learner - how they have settled in, friendships, their learning progress etc. By this stage we hope you and your child will be feeling a part of our school community and more confident about how our school works. Our open door policy is very important to us, this means that we encourage families to come into school at any time during the school year, if they have any concerns or queries. If you would like to meet with the Headteacher, please make an appointment as she is often in meetings.
As a team we have many years of experience settling children in, so try not to worry, your child will very quickly feel safe and happy and a part of the Victoria Academy family.
