PE & Sport Premium

The Government are spending over £450 million on improving physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools over the 3 academic years 2013 to 2014, 2014 to 2015 and 2015 to 2016. This funding is allocated directly to schools for them to choose how they use it.

Victoria Academy has received £9140 additional funding for this financial year. Our school has an excellent sporting reputation and we have many trophies and achievements to our name. We believe that all children should be encouraged to participate in sport as there are so many health and personal attribute benefits.

Our pupils are supported to excel through high quality teaching and coaching and a broad range of sporting opportunities offered. The additional PE & Sports Premium will be spent, in the following key areas, to further enhance our provision:

  • A highly skilled PE Coach appointed to our staff team
  • A PE Mentor to support PE teaching across school
  • A professional Cricket/PE Coach
  • Barrow AFC Football Coaches - increase to number of children participating in after school football coaching
  • A wide range of extra curricular sporting options
  • An additional Midday Supervisor to engage pupils in active games at lunchtime
  • Additional PE equipment as necessary

PE and Sports Premium has had a huge impact on the children at Victoria. Each year group now receives lessons provided by professional sports people, visits include experience of outdoor education and all pupils participate in swimming lessons.

Through PE Mentoring, teachers have developed their subject knowledge and techniques, improving the quality of teaching and learning in PE, across the school.
